Choosing a Name, and The Meaning of CoderHood

Reading Time: 1 minute

fav_icon Choosing a Name, and The Meaning of CoderHood blog Hello, World! This is the very first post on this site. It seemed fitting that the topic of it would be the name of the blog itself: CoderHoodThe state, condition, character and nature of being a software coder; the state of belonging to and evolving in a software engineering organization where software developers (AKA coders) work and operate.. I chose this name because it perfectly captures the intent and the topics I will cover. The word is also short, easy to remember, sounds nice, and the .com domain was not taken. What can you possibly want more from a name?

When you have a “new word”, you need a definition, even if the word is simple and self-explanatory. For fun, I submitted a definition on urbandictionary, and it was quickly approved. Yes, true, maybe that’s not the best type of validation, but I guess it feels like a starting point.

Here is the definition I came up with:

Coderhood | noun

The state, condition, character, and nature of being a software coder; the state of belonging to and evolving in a software engineering organization where software developers (AKA coders) work and operate.

Example of sentences

I officially reached coderhoodThe state, condition, character and nature of being a software coder; the state of belonging to and evolving in a software engineering organization where software developers (AKA coders) work and operate. when I finally got my Computer Science degree.

I spent 20 years in coderhoodThe state, condition, character and nature of being a software coder; the state of belonging to and evolving in a software engineering organization where software developers (AKA coders) work and operate., and have no intention to retire.

With this blog I hope to aid your journey into coderhood, one article at the time.
